    When you start the computer for the first time, a few system start-up messages may appear, including one that shows your Service Tag and Express Service Code. Your computer is preconfigured with the operating system already installed. Before turning on your computer for the first time, you must complete all the previous setup steps, connecting all devices for your computer.

    Setup and Quick Reference Guide Insert the Dell Precision ResourceCD into the CD drive. If you are using the Dell Precision ResourceCD for the first time on this computer, the ResourceCD Installation window opens to inform you that the ResourceCD is about to begin installation.

    Start the Dell Diagnostics from either your hard drive or from the Drivers and Utilities CD (also known as the ResourceCD). Starting the Dell Diagnostics From Your Hard Drive Shut down and restart the computer.

A successful power-on self-test (POST) ends with a single beep that signifies the start of normal operation. If the computer fails to complete the POST, a series of lights located on the computer can help you understand which test failed or why the computer stopped responding.

The beep code is a pattern of sounds: for example, one beep, followed by a second beep, and then a burst of three beeps (code 1-1-3) means that the computer was unable to read the data in nonvolatile random-access memory (NVRAM).
